Yacht racing is about companionship, battling the elements and sailing. It is not always about winning

HRH Prince Henrik of Denmark, 1934-2018

Honorary Skipper, Wings K15

Wings K15

Wings K15 is the stunning Charles E. Nicholson design and Camper & Nicholson construction. She is a mahogany on oak construction and a third rule Bermuda sloop rigged 12mR yacht contracted by Maurice Solvay in 1937.

Wings K15 is one of only 32 active classic pre World War 2 12mR yachts in the world. She is 72 feet long and weighs 28 tons. In 2017 a Finish/Danish syndicate acquired Wings K15. Since June 2017, her homeport has been Skovshoved harbour North of Copenhagen, Denmark.

For more details and history, please visit Wings’ page on the official 12mR class website.

Wings K15 is sailed by a part Finish, part Danish crew. An eclectic mix of sailors in all ages and with different levels of experience. Shared between all is the companionship, a desire to battle the elements and the love of sailing.

In racing order, Wings K15 is according to class regulations crewed by 16 sailors, but her total crew is approximately 30 friends and sailors. All pitching in with their experience and expertise in order to make sure that Wings K15, her tender and all shore operations are running as smooth as possible.

Our campaign

Wings K15 and her part Finish, part Danish crew have embarked on the Road to the Worlds Waypoint Series. A 3-year International 12mR yacht competition from June 2017 through and including the 2019 12mR World Championship, July 15 – 21 at Newport, Rhode Island.

The 1st season of our campaign had both its highs and lows. A European Championship and a dismasting.

After more than two years out of the water, Wings K15 arrived in Copenhagen in June 2017. With the European Championship in Flensburg only three weeks away, the crew worked relentlessly in order to bring Wings K15 into racing order. With only the tune-up event as training, we sailed Wings K15 to victory in the European Championship 2017. A fantastic achievement which we will never forget.
